Here is Something You Should See…

TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here:
Can our buildings breathe like the skin of a plant leaf, while they clean polluted water?

Shneel Malik showcases the future of architectural design through Indus – a wall designed with a novel biomaterial containing microalgae that performs photosynthesis. Bridging futuristic techniques with age-old cultural practices, she discusses the potentials of fabricating Indus empowering millions of small scale artisans across the globe. An Architect, Biodesign Researcher & Social entrepreneur, Shneel Malik is revolutionising the way we interact with our natural resources, in particular water.

Working at the intersection of architecture, novel living materials, new 3D printing techniques amalgamated with vernacular practices. As part of the Bio-Integrated Design Lab, UCL, they investigate ways of transitioning our existing urban scenarios and daily practices into systems that perform biological processes, transitioning our current linear processes into a circular economy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
