Shyam Konnur, in his talk, enlightens us on his experiences as an equal rights and LGBTQIA+ activist and how being an individual within the community is a constant struggle and battle for equality.
Shyam Konnur is an activist, educator and social entrepreneur. He is well known for his work towards LGBTQIA+ community and equal rights activism. He is an out and proud gay individual who recently won the title of Mr. Gay India 2020. He will soon be representing India at Mr. Gay World being held this year in Africa. Shyam is the founder of Mist which is an LGBTQIA+ collective that started in Bangalore in 2010. MIST aims to provide a safe and non-judgemental environment for the community, where everyone can be themselves as well as bridge the gap between the queer community and straight allies. It organises queer film festivals, parties, art festivals and peer support group meetings which are open to everyone irrespective of their sexual orientation. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
