This important and hopeful talk offers an easy to practice method that helps people who disagree still make progress and do good work together, even when differences and disagreements may upset us and we may feel very stuck. And there’s even a secret weapon for when things are extra hard. Please take the time to learn these simple steps, because so much depends on our ability to work together and to have improved relationships. Kate Bracy is on the board of Civility First, are a group of citizens representing a wide range of political views. The group has come together to repudiate the divisive language and hate speech permeating our society.

Bracy retired as a nurse educator, and spent much of her career also actively teaching individuals and teams communication strategies for working more effectively with each other.

Civility First promotes listening and learning from people with differing perspectives. The group asks civic and community leaders, civic groups, religious groups, and concerned citizens to commit to respectful listening, civil behavior, and to being role models for our children. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
