As a teenager, he co-founded GreenChar, an award winning social enterprise that provides affordable and safe energy to households and homes in Kenya. Tom’s experiences growing up in poverty
in rural Kenya fuels his passion for social innovation and entrepreneurship. Tom is the youngest recipient of the Echoing Green Fellowship, is a Forbes 30 under 30 Social Entrepreneur and has won Women Deliver Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award and
is one of the 100 Most In uential young Kenyans. He currently studies Computer Science and Economics at Harvard University. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
