Sir William Haughey, an inspirational Scottish businessman. There are not many Scots who have built a tiny business with only four employees into a global giant employing 11,000 people, but Glasgow-based entrepreneur Willie Haughey is one of them. His company, City Refrigeration Holdings, has grown from humble beginnings in 1985, with a turnover of £100,000, to become the biggest privately-owned facilities management company in Europe with a turnover of £400 million. Sir William has received many awards including a Knighthood announced in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List (2012), Glasgow Chamber of Commerce — Lifetime Achievement Award (2009), Business Man of the Year Award (2003) and Entrepreneur of the Year (2000).

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
