Social inequality and economic downturn do not give grounds for hope in a better future. When the economy decreases, politics adapts and affects the lower classes. The only way to get out of the impasse is to focus on education and strive to give young people a better future.

Disuguaglianza sociale e crisi economica non fanno sperare in un futuro migliore. Quando l’economia decresce, la politica si adegua e colpisce le classi più in basso. L’unico modo per uscire dall’impasse è puntare sull’istruzione e adoperarsi per regalare ai giovani un futuro migliore. Expert in international political economy, he was vice-director of the International Monetary Fund and worked for the World Bank. In his last book Euro Tragedy: A Drama in Nine Acts he shows his opposition to fiscal austerity as a means of solving credit crisis. Today he is a professor of the University of Princeton and member of the Center for Financial Studies of Frankfurt.
