Sachiko she believes in sharing the energy, spirit and mana of Fijian contemporary dance with the planet.

In this talk she shares the secrets of her successful artistic entrepreneurship, which has seen her run a contemporary dance company in her small island home Fiji for 10 years.

She believes her model allows all artists to have fulfilling and sustainable careers while still remaining true to their artistic pursuits.

Sachiko Soro is a human that fell in love with dance and playing music at a young age which led to her spending most of her life doing it.

Sachiko founded the VOU Dance Company in Fiji more than 10 years ago. The company provides scholarships for hopeful dancers and supports the careers of dancers by hiring them as full time professionals. VOU has performed at events all over the world and runs to Dance Schools in Suva and Nadi.

Sachiko majored in dance in New Zealand and returned to Fiji to start the VOU Dance Company which connects us to the culture of Fiji and the Pacific through contemporary dance. She has two very cute babies, and a dancing machine husband that are all part of the story behind the success of the VOU Dance Company.

  1. Good for you! And for them, and for them, as dancers! "We must become entrepreneurs!" Yes! I share your insight and vision. It's a pity that those who ran the school in which I taught, failed to recognise the importance of the very idea that it's important to teach children how to be self employed, financing, producing, marketing, and selling their own art work. It might have been great also to encourage gardeners to do the same or cooks, performers and musicians to do the same. I retired and the great idea retired with me. Thank God for people like you!
