Business Tips: Listen Up Interns
Awesome Tip: Listen Up Interns
INTERNS IT’S NOT ABOUT WHAT YOU’RE GOING TO LEARN IT’S ABOUT WHO YOU’RE GOING TO MEET. INTERNSHIPS AND NETWORKING ARE ALL ABOUT MAKING HUMAN CONNECTIONS, IT’S THE PEOPLE THAT MATTER.

wow the fluffy husky pup took my attention for a sec lol
Networking is key. Good manners go a long way. Especially speaking to the opposite gender. If you're a man, listen closely to the women that you work with, make frequent eye contact, they will admire your dedication in being a person that gives them an interpersonal regard. Ask them how to do things properly. This demonstrates that you respect their experience and knowledge.
I'm starting my internship tomorrow. Really needed this
We hope our media internship teaches more than networking. Recent successes include a cameraman at The Masters for CBS who started with us each summer when just 12. Another actor intern just got featured in several national tv adverts and a music video that just busted 30 million views in just one week. We aim high ;- Thanks Gary V !!
I know its a dumb question but what is the benefit of maximizing your relationships in office during internship?
I mean no one will hire me cuz i'm student of microbiology and doing internship in engineering dept with water treatment team.
He is like Mr. Bean…. !!!!
Getting coffee as an intern is a myth. All of the internships I've had I have done have been hands on.
Maybe solid advice but the stupid inspirational music in background turn me off, why the need to make a seemingly good advice sounds cliche?
Hi Gary.
I just started my second internship and I have to totally agree with you. I learned that intern has to get skills or connections or both and if not then he or she has to relize that the company dont have anything to offer to an intern maybe they most likely dont have anyhting to offer to new employee.
This is great advice! It should be a mandatory watch for all college students thinking about internships.
I got my marketing internship, which was a requirement to graduate, from connections I got working in the factory part of the company. The production manager would always go through and talk to everyone, which I loved, and we would have longer conversations about college because he went to the one I was attending. Then when I needed the internship I hit him up asking if they had anything and the rest is history.
I f&%ckin love you Gary! I'm 19 and just got my internship for the summer. Going to apply this advice and will check back in at the end of the summer!
Spoken like a true talentless loser. Focus on improving yourself and your skillset and showcasing your work in relevant places, and the contacts will come on their won. By the way, what has 'GaryVee' done in his life that he thinks himself poised enough to be giving this bullshit advice to the masses?
cut the freaking music so I can hear the man, damn
I'm a right wing conservative. My intern is left, like two boys sharing soap, I respect his point of view, i don't like it. He opened my eyes in many ways.
in an internship right now….I'm doing it wrong lol. Gotta adjust
Translated to French ! People must know.
Powerful message.
Love this one, Gary – thank you. Im not particularly advanced in my career, but I have a job that people think is cool (for a good company). I get asked about how to get the most out of an internship, how to interview, how to advance in a career. My answer is always some version of: Find loose connections. Find a connection between what you currently do and what you'd like to do. Then give the people involved a reason to engage with you.
Thank you for the advice Gary!!
Well Said!
I am working somewhere right now where everyone has their heads down, they don't respond to friendly conversations, people hate their jobs… I even had someone directly ignore my, "good morning" as we got into the elevator. Ain't nobody got time! I would rather be social and talkative than a cold person.
It's all about the people. All 7 Billion of them
Interning atm for small British retailer business & fully appreciate this. ALTHOUGH have almost finished implementing their snap chat account and habits. Tccchhyyyeaaaahhh Gaaryyy
great advice, bless you Gary
I could use some interns…
Game changer.
Love your work brother.
This is completely tru, i missed such a great opportunity ahh, but it sucks when u have anxiety, and low self esteem in general.
I wish I was told this when I started out in my industry.
