Racks is a legend in the streetwear game. Glad to see this collab.
This is some of the best advice I’ve ever heard and the best thing is its doing things in the right way. Respect
“Pay attention”. Everyone’s heard it their whole lives. “Pay attention”. Take this LITERALLY! and take great care whom you PAY! your attention is finite. NO ONE is filthy rich with the greatest currency in the land, ATTENTION. You only have so much to give away in a single 24hr period when you spend 8 of it sleeping. Spend your attention on content with a return. All of social media is 99% dumpster fire bullshit. BUT, used appropriately, carefully, the 1% remaining is FREE SCHOOL! anything you want to learn to empower yourself is available now FOR FREE! YouTube for example is filthy full of people generating valuable content FOR FREE! I wonder how much longer brick and mortar schools will retain their relevance? Aside from being a surgeon you can learn most anything you want for free! “Ya but I will have a degree….” -Good Will Hunting. So what!? A piece of paper that shows you payed someone attention somewhere? Employers, business owners, creators, makers, etc. are waking up to that shit! If you can make a proposition with confidence you will be given a chance. Chances are all around, every minute of every day. Reach out and grab as many as you’re able.
How
Can someone please explain this bit at 8:34? "They think they're feeding you" Thank you so much.
That was just overwhelmingly good! Truth overloooaaad.
@garyvee Here's what I can't figure out. I'm a freelance journalist/photojournalist – I write feature news stories about good people doing good things. (Examples: a guy who cuts grass free for widows, single mothers, etc.; a manufacturer that employs disabled people to produce interment flags for veterans; church groups bypassing red tape to help people after Hurricane Michael; etc.)
I write a story for Washington Post, I make $300. I write for TIME, I may make $600. I'll spend twice as much to travel to the story. Few outlets pay travel these days.
I'm broke af.
I have good clips. Editors call when they want to inspire people or make readers cry. I produce emotion in readers. I can write the hair off a fucking dog.
I think the world needs more kindness, more love, and I know how to write those stories. I WANT to write those stories. But I can't sell for shit. I hate it.
Most writers are selling courses. I have zero interest in that. I'm not interested in public speaking. Selling books doesn't pay that well. I have a soft spot in my heart for other writers, but most of them are getting scammed by con artists.
I don't need a lot. Hell, $30,000 a year and I'd be ok. Historically, the man who owned the printing press made the money, not the writers. But no one is making a living starting newspapers and magazines now.
How the hell do I monetize what I do without cheapening the entire thing?
I've been doing this 30 years. I don't know what I'm trying to sell or to whom. I pitch stories to editors. Am I selling a service? I saw you say sell products, not services. What is my product?
I'm trying to sell a vision of a better world. I'm peddling hope so people can see that good is out there. It's real.
But I'm losing hope myself because I'm living with my parents at 46 and can't even consistently support myself. Every day I blindly pitch anything to anyone who will pay me. I cover major stories for major media outlets while sleeping in my car and eating Pop Tarts.
This isn't working. And I don't know what the fuck to do anymore. I understand giving away content for free. I don't understand how to fund my basic needs.
I'm sorry this was so long. I hope you can help. I'm damned good at what I do. But I'm not selling the right thing. My business model isn't working.
I'm currently on Instagram, Twitter, Medium, and LinkedIn. I have a writing website, a stock photo website, a travel blog, and I sell stock photos on Alamy and Shutterstock. The most I've ever pulled in a year was $35,000. My family is disappointed in me, and honestly, I'm disappointed in myself. Sometimes I want to give up, but quitting isn't in my blood.
Gary you bring me back to the real world.
solid video again Gary
This is an informative talk
Gary V just gave the blueprint to success right here. I don't know anything about Racks Hogan but the fact that he's taking notes, listening, and thinking about how to better other people's lives just says everything I need to know about him. Two spectacular human beings right here.
Racks is amazing bro most people would just sit here and listen to the advice just because he's Gary vee and it's what everyone wants to do but racks actually listened wrote shit down and applied what Gary said
4:09 When the idea & pen drops
Jeez only 6mins into this video and I can already tell this was the video I needed.
This is the most underrated Gary Vee video. I'm applying this strategy as a freelance director and seeing results. Keep killing shit Gary
Create no friction. Wow!
If dude on right side of the frame going through his DM's and didn't seal a deal in trading those messages, could it be a sign of the weakest link?
Fucking golden
Fuck yes
I like this
Thank U:)
What happens when you discover Gary like an epiphany…knowing you're a good, smart dude…but have nothing? I consume all of his content…get all the concepts…but I'm not an artist…I have no product…no superhuman skill. I suppose I will just continue to watch "the haves". It's an inspiration and a curse at the same time. Being a fairly smart, good dude is barely enough to pay the bills. Good luck to everyone that has a tangible.

Give it all away for free.
Reppin the 330! Great episode

Love this convo
Neat stuff
Can you put your audio books in your own voice? Please?
If you're trying to reach 8billion ppl, your shit better be free. Makes sense.
The way he was stroking Rack's Hogan knee is the way he really Strokes him behind the scenes
Hey Gary, or whoever gets to see this. I won't lie and say im a big follower of your stuff. Even though I must say, when I watch your stuff it really ignites a will in me to do more. To take action and do what I do – just for me. Fuck the others, I live for me and my life is my decision.
You make me think about the important stuff, like whom im spending my time with. Are me and my friends on the same page of what we want to do or do I need to break new ground. You make me take a look inside, and to be honest, im flinching back quite a lot. Im still scared to confront myself on different levels but thanks to you im really trying to go where I would go otherwise.
Much love, Jonas
36:46 I love how there was a moment that felt candid and intimate. Like Gary and Racks were alone for a moment even though it was anything but.
I think Racks will be the 1% that gets shit done. I feel it clicked with him in the last 20 minutes.
