The plastic that dissolves in water. Environmentalist Ashwath Hegde talks about his journey of entrepreneurship to manufacture biodegradable plastic. In the pursuit to eradicate the destructions caused by the rising use of plastics, Ashwath Hegde found his way to do so by marketing his patented product ‘EnviGreen’ carry bags. Made from vegetable waste and vegetable oil derivatives, the bags have been certified as plastic free by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and the global certification and testing firm TÜV SÜD South Asia. His zest for work in the right direction has made him find a spot in the prestigious Forbes’ 30 under 30 list in 2017. Completing his schooling and college from Mangalore, Ashwath Hegde, a management degree holder saw himself venturing into entrepreneurship while in the pursuit to eradicate the destructions caused by the rising use of plastics. Hegde’s journey began in 2012 when the city corporation of his hometown Mangalore (Now Mangaluru), Karnataka, banned plastic bags. In search of substitutes, he formed an R&D team with the help of a few European friends. Four years of R & D team bore fruit in 2016 when the company launched its first GoGreen Campaign in the State of Qatar. In August 2016 Ashwath Hegde founded “Envigreen Biotech Pvt Ltd” to manufacture India’s first 100% plastic-free substitute to plastic packaging products. His zest for work in the right direction has made him find a spot in the prestigious Forbes’ 30 under 30 list in 2017.
